Destination Dentistry is proud to welcome Dr. Rob Lyons to their practice. He joined us in July and we are looking forward to your next visit so that you can meet him. Let’s start by telling you his story: Dr. Rob was born and raised in Buffalo, South Dakota where he graduated high school in 2002. He was convinced that dentistry was in his future, so the following fall he began undergrad at South Dakota State University and graduated in 2006 with a Biology/Pre Dental major and Chemistry minor. He took a year off between undergrad and dental school to teach/ coach at Harding County High School. The following year he began dental school at Creighton University in Omaha, NE and graduated in May 2011.
He decided that the small town values of South Dakota are where his heart lies and looks forward to making Custer his home for years to come. Rob enjoys all the opportunities that South Dakota has to offer and is excited to be back in South Dakota after being in the Big City for four years. When he is not practicing dentistry he enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and just being outdoors.
When Dr. Rob completed his professional studies at the renowned Creighton School of Dentistry, he was the recipient of the Department of General Dentistry Award. This coveted award recognizes a graduating dentist that has demonstrated outstanding clinical skills and a gentle/caring professional approach to patient care. Dr. Dan Custis began his dental practice in Custer, South Dakota in July 1978. The doctor and his wife, Linda, are both native South Dakotans. They chose to return to South Dakota after his graduation from Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago because they wanted the small town way of life. The Custis family has been very thankful over the years for the opportunity to have chosen South Dakota's own beautiful Black Hills as their home. Custer's small town atmosphere and values have made it a great place to live, practice, and raise their two sons, Trent and Tyler. Dr. Custis' commitment to his family, patients, and community has spanned several decades and is something of which he is very proud.
His experience and dedication, as well as an in-depth understanding of today's technology, allows Dr. Custis to offer the latest, most technologically advanced procedures available in South Dakota, and quite possibly the United States. He prides himself in countless hours of continuing education in all areas of dentistry, but his special interests are cosmetics, laser dentistry, computer-engineered one-visit white crowns, and preventative dental health and its correlation to systemic health.
